Resume of Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Hanumaiah |
Prof.B.Hanumaiah was born on 18th August
1948 in a place called Venkataiahna Chatra of Chamarajanagar Taluk and
District of Karnataka State. He completed his early education from his
native village and Chamarajanagar. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in
1970 and his Post-Graduate degree in Physics in 1972 from University
of Mysore. He carried out research work on The Interaction of
Antiprotons with Protons at 32 GeV/c using MIRABELLE Bubble Chamber
and obtained his Ph.D. in the year 1978 from Moscow State
University, Moscow (then USSR). His thesis was written in Russian
Language and he has also published four research papers in Russian
language. He also has a Diploma in Russian Language and a Diploma in
Communist Philosophy from Moscow State University, Moscow.
Prof. Hanumaiah has a vast academic
experience of 35 years as a Teacher and 31 years as a Researcher. He
has worked as a Lecturer from 1972 to 1982 at various places
(Government College for Boys, Mandya 1972-73, Government Women’s
College, Mandya 1973-76, Moscow State University, Moscow 1976-81,
Maharani Science College, Mysore 1981-82) before he joined the
Department of Physics, Karnatak University, Dharwad as a Reader in the
year 1982. He was later appointed as a Professor of Physics in the
same Department in the year 1991. As a renowned researcher, he has
published about 43 research papers in International/National Journals
of repute and has refereed a large number of research papers in
Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics published in International and
National Journals. He has attended more than 12 International/National
Conferences and visited six laboratories abroad like Moscow State
University, Moscow, High Energy Institute for Particle Physics,
Serpukhov (USSR), Institute for Nuclear Physics, Dubna (USSR),
University of Helsenky, Finland, Oxford University, London and
Stockholm University, Sweden apart from premier research institutes in
India. He has guided seven students for their research degrees. He has
also been instrumental in organising National level Seminar on
Photon Atom Interaction in November 1992 and a Seminar on
University-Industry Link in January
1991 at Karnatak University, Dharwad.
A well known academician, Prof. Hanumaiah
has been a member of various Academic and Authoritative bodies
(Senate, Academic Council, Malpractice Committee, Local Enquiry
Committee for Engineering, Post-Graduate and Under-Graduate courses,
BOS and BOA in Physics) of Karnatak, Gulbarga, Mangalore and Kuvempu
Universities. He is also the Life Member of International Radiation
Physics Society (IRPS), Indian Physics Association (IPA), Indian
Society for Radiation Physics (ISRP) Indian Association of Physics
Teachers (IAPT) and Member of Indian Science Congress, Executive
Committee, ISRP (1993), Editorial Board, Bulletin of Pure and Applied
Science (half yearly Journal). He has also been the Member of
Selection Committee for Selection of Advisors, Directors, Deputy
Directors and Assistant Directors of AICTE, New Delhi. He was a Member
of Selection Committee for the Award of Foreign Scholarships in
Physics, HRD Ministry, New Delhi.
Apart from his academic activities Prof.
Hanumaiah was also known for his Administrative and Organising skills.
He has held various responsible positions in Karnatak University like
Supervisor, SC/ST Cell, Director, IAS/IPS coaching centre, Chief,
University Information and Guidance Bureau, Chairman, Department of
Physics, President, P.G. Gymkhana, Director, Students Welfare,
Director, Physical Education, Coordinator, State Level NET Examination
(1995 and 1996), Director, University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC)
and In charge, University Security etc. He was actively involved in
the developmental activities of the Karnatak University campus. He is
a good sportsman and plays Shuttle Badminton.
In recognition of his vast experience in
academics as well as administration he has been nominated to various
distinguished bodies like:
